BUDO GALA – The Concept
The world’s #1 martial arts festival, BUDO GALA®, started in 1989 as a martial arts show under the supervision of German organizers who mainly focused on the German market.
Back then, BUDO GALA set a new standard since it was the very first martial arts show, not to focus on fighting, but bringing martial arts under the audience’ attention by showing the beauty of the art due to demonstrations.
These short demonstrations were performed, guided by music (most of them synchronized to the music), which added a whole new dimension to the term ‘martial arts’.
It has always been our aim to give the athlete a platform to showcase their talents and at the same time present the audience with a fantastic show, and introduce them to the beautiful techniques of the various martial art styles, and through that way give them an inside view into the mystic world of martial arts.
Ever since, BUDO GALA has always been considered to be in a league of its own, due to its outstanding high level performances.
Over the years we had the privilege to work with some of the biggest names in martial arts history, such as; Jean-Claude van Damme, Chuck Norris, Bolo Yeung, Andy Hug, Mike Chat, Jean Frenette, Ernie Reyes’ West Coast Demo Team, Cynthia Rothrock, Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Jon Foo, Christian Tissier, Eric Pariset, Earl Blijd, Henk Meijer, Dominique Valera, and many many more…
Today, more than 25 years later, the BUDO GALA brand name still stands synonymous to the absolute highest level in martial arts demonstrations, due to its outstanding level of perfection, and we have every intention to build on to that foundation and raise the bar even higher.
However times have changed drastically since we started, back in 1989, and the German market isn’t as unknown to martial arts shows anymore, as it was back then.
So we have set ourselves new goals, aiming to make the BUDO GALA brand name a worldwide recognised quality product, leaving no room for any competitor within the same business area.
The organisation behind BUDO GALA (as well as the previous organizers) follows a rich history of martial arts culture dating back as far as the ancient Japanese samurai warriors back in the 12th century.
Today, BUDO GALA has evolved into a show welcoming every single martial artist around the globe to showcase his/her talent at an elite level within an environment where safety stands paramount.
BUDO GALA demonstrates many different martial art styles such as; Judo, Karate, Kung Fu, Pencak Silat, Taekwondo, and anything that fits within the category ‘martial arts’.
In the past, BUDO GALA’s have been organised all around Europe, for example we have been in the Westfalenhallen in Dortmund (Germany), the Grugahalle in Essen (Germany), the Olympiahalle in Munich (Germany), the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart (Germany), but also in the St. Jakobshalle in Basel (Switzerland), Singapore, Dubai, Split and Zagreb (the latter 2 both in Croatia).
BUDO GALA connects with its followers through its website, budogala.com, as well as through social media platforms such as; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
The Owner and BUDO GALA’s Mindset
When Richard Vos became the new owner of BUDO GALA® in 2011, he embarked on a journey to make the BUDO GALA brand name a worldwide recognized quality product.
Dedicated to exposing the audience to BUDO GALA’s one of a kind, breath-taking performances, incredible athletes and the best experience in martial arts demonstrations, Richard Vos resurrected a show that many people believed to have died years ago and took the challenge not only to make sure the BUDO GALA brand name gets back to where it belongs – at the very top that is – but also to try and make the BUDO GALA brand name become synonymous to pure perfection when it comes to martial arts performance.
Richard Vos started refining what has been a winning formula back in the mid-nineties, but needed a bit of an overhaul in order to become more future proof.
BUDO GALA now has very big ambitions, since our will to expand doesn’t simply stop at the European borders, we have every intention to make sure the BUDO GALA brand name becomes and stays synonymous to being the world’s # 1 martial arts festival.
BUDO GALA genuinely feels it has the right tools and ingredients it needs to step up its game.
“You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
– Sylvester Stallone, in ‘Rocky Balboa’
